Structure versus tags
The two halves of this read-out are not equally trustworthy. The structural facts, the container format, the codec, the sample rate, the bitrate and whether the audio is lossless, describe how the file is actually built, and to change them convincingly you have to re-encode the audio, which leaves its own traces. The written tags, the title, artist, album and comments, are just text fields bolted on for players to display, and anyone can rewrite them in seconds. A tag is a claim; the structure is closer to a fact.
What the structure can tell you
The encoding often contradicts a story. A file presented as a pristine studio master that turns out to be a low-bitrate lossy codec has been through compression somewhere. A sample rate or channel count that does not fit the claimed source is worth a second look. None of this is proof on its own, but it is the kind of detail that is hard to stage, which is why it sits above the tags here.
What it does not do
This reads the metadata; it does not analyse the sound itself for edits, splices or re-encoding artefacts, which are separate checks. To confirm the file really is the format it claims, use the true file type tool, and browse the full tool set for the rest.
